KUMBAKONAM TRADITION
Kumbakonam is a place which fills every one who loves culture and tradition with wonder..The city holds thousands of magnificent temples ranging from a simple temple in front of a tree to gigantic temples that spread out several acres.I think the people of kumbakonam are so obsessed with architecture .Travelling into the interiors of this city i came across a lot of ruined temples standing as mere witness to the bygone glorious past.Even today many temples are being constructed .The main attraction is around Sree Rangapani Temple..It is a big temple having a huge gopuram.The great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan lived close to this temple.His house is now a monument ..Two other large temples with high gopurams are also near Sarangapani temple..It is better to stay in this place and collect information about temples from local people if you are a serious architecture freak..Around some 10 km from this Sreerangapani temple lies the traditional villages of udayalur and Tippirajapuram..Traditional Agraharam type settlements are the main attraction at udayalur village.. on the way to udayalur lies the historic patteswaram temple ...There are a lot of temples around Udayalur...
